Isn’t the work we do amazing? It feels so wonderful to teach Yoga and see your students become more relaxed and peaceful. I love the feeling I get at the end of each class – I am present in my body, feel deeply connected and more alive. How about you?
As yoga teachers, we love the work we do, but we may not love what it takes to build our businesses. We go to our teacher trainings and learn so much about asana and the deeper philosophy, but no one prepares us for the ups and downs and daily realities of being a yoga teacher.
If you’re like many of my clients you may be feeling:

We show people how to live healthy, joyous lives, and we transform fear and anger into courage and love. We bring light to our students and classes, helping to birth a new reality into being.

to actualize your life purpose.
I know because I’ve been there. Since I first became a Yoga teacher in 1995, I’ve been through many ups and downs on the journey to manifesting my vision. Now I can truly say that I LOVE my work. Every day I contribute to the lives of others in a way that absolutely nourishes my soul. I have a thriving practice with a waiting list. Best yet, it feels fantastic to know I’m fully living my purpose.
But it wasn’t always like that. For many years I struggled with confusion and doubt, not sure how to contribute in the way I was meant to.
I was extremely passionate about bringing forward women’s voices in Yoga and undertook graduate research in this field. I wrote about the Moon Salutation, giving workshops and trainings.
Later I was led to research the ecological roots of Yoga, gathering Yoga teachers together for collaboration and creative expansion, leading to my PhD and founding a non-profit, the Green Yoga Association.
On many levels I was extremely successful. The Green Yoga Association initiated a nationwide movement towards greening Yoga studios, shifted the media conversation to include taking care of the planet as part of Yoga, and opened the market to non-toxic mats. We produced two conferences and a Teacher Leadership Program, and were featured in over 15 Yoga and other magazines.
But what really hamstringed me was not having a business model that would put the organization on solid ground financially. No one had ever taught me how to run a successful business.
Even more, I had absorbed multiple messages that money wasn’t supposed to matter to a Yogini. Yoga is all about non-attachment, right? If I were a spiritual being, the money would just show up without the need to plan for it.
Well, that didn’t work, and everybody lost. Ultimately, I burned out. I walked away in exhaustion and shame from the organization I had founded, simply because I didn’t know how to provide for it financially!
This was a major turning point for me. I never wanted to be in that position again. Knowing there had to be models out there that would lead to a sustainable business, I went on a quest to find them! I studied accounting, business planning, and marketing. I completely revamped my relationship to time and money.
The final step was releasing the self-blame and confusion that had accumulated from previous “mistakes.” I needed to free myself from that burden so I could step out with freedom and make the difference I longed to make.
Ultimately, I cracked the code.
The results have been powerful. Last year I grew the email list for my Divine Feminine Yoga Business from 200 to 4500. Over 400 people sent thank you emails in gratitude for the ways that I served them. And in the last five months I earned $40,000, more than five times what I had earned from Yoga in any previous YEAR.
I am so thankful every day for my life and the opportunity to use my gifts fully. Today I serve thousands of women around the globe, helping them heal body and soul so they can contribute to healing the planet. I support Yoga teachers in deepening and extending the creative contribution they make to the world. This is my dream realized.
Now I have the resources to truly support my work, enabling me to contribute to the spiritual evolution of our species with joy and freedom. What a blessing.
