Goddess Kali’s Hidden Gifts

Goddess Kali represents the energy of loss and destruction. Among the many faces of the Divine Feminine, Hers is one of the most fearsome.

NewsletterPhotoSep2013GoddessKaliKali is shown wearing a necklace of severed heads, her tongue outstretched, her hair wild and unruly. She holds an additional severed head by the hair, blood dripping from the neck of her unlucky victim.

Kali’s bloodthirsty nature actually holds a hidden gift ~ the power to liberate us from the shackles of our own mind! The severed heads around her neck symbolize our many limiting beliefs and samskaras. Her great knife symbolizes the power to free us completely from these beliefs, and to bring us to a new state of creativity and ecstasy. This is why we also see Goddess Kali dancing!

So often we resist Kali’s messages and lessons. It’s not fun when we come up against the small thoughts of our ego, those “I can’ts” or “I’m not good enoughs.” They can be very believable, even seemingly reasonable. But when we take the opportunity to dance with Kali, and to examine our limiting beliefs in the light of consciousness, shift and freedom await us on the other side!

Kali’s lessons may come to us also in big ways, such as when we experience the loss of a familiar job, a beautiful home, a cherished identity, or even a loved one. Ouch! These losses are painful, and not usually experiences we seek.

In those moments, Kali asks us to release the resistance and surrender. This is Ma Kali, the great Mother, lovingly taking us by the hand. Gradually, with the help of our communities and the Goddess herself, we can find readiness to open to what is waiting on the other side ~ great release, great rebirth ~ yes, even ecstasy.
